Transpac Race Strategy and Tactics Seminar by Stan Honey

World Class navigator and multiple Transpac winner Stan Honey provided his thoughts on Transpac in a recent webinar held for entries in this year’s race, including a detailed analysis of the race in several segments: getting off the start, leaving the coast, lining up in the correct lane to get west, and strategies coming into the islands and making the final approach to the finish at Diamond Head.

There is a lot of valuable information here, not just for this race, but tips for finding relevant resources to help navigate any ocean race.

The Passing of Chris Welsh

You were a flashing lighthouse light in a world often blanketed with storms. May you rest in peace.

This past week we lost a true legend with the sudden passing of Chris Welsh. A man of many passions, who accomplished more in a week than most in a year, he was a modern day Leonardo da Vinci — in business, on the water, and in the air.

On the water, he was the proud owner, restorer, and skipper of Ragtime, a Spencer 65 which he raced to overall wins in The LA-Tahiti race and a division win in the Sydney-Hobart, along with many Transpacs and races in his home ports of San Francisco Bay and Newport Beach. Chris purchased Cheyenne, the one-time Jules Verne record-breaking Playstation, from Steve Fossett, to continue his underwater exploration, using Cheyenne as the mothership for his submarine project, Pentarius, dedicated to exploring the five oceans and committed to doing environmental and scientific research. His most recent adventure was the recommissioning of L’Hydroptere, the speed-breaking trimaran, alongside his partner Gabriel Terrasse, who will continue the project.

Transpac 51 welcomes GoodEnergy, its 60th entry

Los Angeles, CA – The 63-foot Reichel/Pugh-designed GoodEnergyco-skippered by George Hershman and Mark Comings is now the 60^th entry in this year’s 51^st edition of the Transpac, the Transpacific Yacht Club’s 2225-mile ocean racing classic from Los Angeles to Honolulu. GoodEnergy joins a strong fleet of similar high-performance monohulls along with a diverse array of many other boat types who will be starting in the race in three waves beginning on July 13^th, 2021.
