The International Entries Taking on Transpac

Aloha to our international competitors: Marten 72 Aragon, Andrews 77 Mach II, Volvo 70 Noahs II and Elliott 35 Palby Marine

Transpac’s reputation as one of the premier offshore regattas always draws a contingent of sailors from all over the world. With start and finish lines in iconic destinations, tough yet friendly competition, and a course characterized by stellar downwind sailing conditions, it’s no wonder that Transpac has gained notoriety on a global scale.

This year, four boats and their crews are crossing international waters and heading to sunny Southern California for the start of the race. Aragon (Netherlands), Mach II (Canada), Noahs II (Austria), and Palby Marine (Denmark) will represent their respective nations in the race from Los Angeles to Hawaii.

Scoring Changes for 2025

The 2025 Transpac will use Forecast-Time Correction Factor (F-TCF) scoring to account for varying weather conditions on start dates and how different types of boats use the same weather to sail different optimal courses to Honolulu. “Catalina Eddy” weather effects often make the first 200 miles of Transpac significantly different from one start day to another, and with three planned starts staggered over five days chances are high for different weather between the starts. Fortunately, “Catalina Eddies” are now well predicted by HRRR forecasts.

Ragtime Returns to Transpac, Make Plans to Ship your Delivery Gear + More Transpac Resources

WITH A STORIED PAST, RAGTIME SETS SAIL IN TRANSPAC 2025

Over the years, Transpac has drawn many legends of yacht racing—this year one one such legend, Ragtime, returns after years away.

Recently relaunched and sporting significant upgrades, Ragtime's signature black hull and sleek low profile will still be recognizable to longtime fans of what's considered to be the original ultra light displacement boat (ULDB).

It’s Ragtime’s first Transpac since 2009, but this legendary race boat is no stranger to this legendary race. Ragtime has competed in several Transpacs—the first in 1973 when she won the prestigious "Barn Door" trophy, beating favored-to-win Windward Passage by 4 minutes and 31 seconds. This year marks the 50th anniversary of her next first-place finish, when she defeated Windward Passage again. Though many of Ragtime’s past rivals haven’t survived into the modern era, one boat that was specifically built to beat her is also racing in Transpac 2025—Bill Lee’s Merlin.

“It’s super exciting to be facing off against Merlin this year,” said owner and skipper Tina Roberts, who feels that Ragtime’s history with this race is what sets Transpac apart from the other regattas in their busy schedule back on the water. “As a sailor, my goal is to provide stewardship for Ragtime,” said Roberts.
