46th on the 4th!

At the ready: A few Transpac racers are playing catchup today at the US Sailing Safety at Sea Seminar at Shoreline Yacht Club, while around Rainbow Harbor the other crews of 53 entries in the 46th Transpacific Yacht Race are preparing their boats in various levels of stress. In a few cases, gear is still being installed; in other cases it's about getting a last load of laundry washed.

Tahiti 2012 Announcement

Transpac is hearing from sailors with a yen to race to Tahiti, and they ask—

Will there be another race like 2008?

The answer is yes.

Tahiti 2012 Confirmed!

Transpac has announced that the 2012 Tahiti Race is now a “Go”.  So far, there are two excellent boats entered: Karl Kwok’s Farr 80 “Beau Geste”, and Steve Rander’s Wylie 70 “Rage”.

Roy Disney Gone at 79

The Transpacific Yacht Club membership joins the rest of the sailing world in expressing our deepest sorrow at the passing of Roy E. Disney. Our condolences especially go to his wife and family who will most miss Roy. We understand the loss of a family member and friend and extend our greatest sympathy.

Transpac Racers are in the Trade Winds

Relentless, the modified Nelson Marek One-Design 35 has crossed the most meridians, but somewhere around 140º west, the Criminal Mischief crew will say “Aloha! See you in Hawaii!” to Tim Fuller and Erik Shampain on Relentless. Alfa Romeo, is flying at 16 knots just north of 26º30’ and has recently passed Bengal 7, the Division 3 leader and the frontrunner among the Japanese Transpac Race entries. Later today, Alfa will storm out ahead of the entire fleet and will probably overtake the communications vessel, Alaska Eagle.

Transpac Tradition Survives while History is Rewritten

Transpac ‘09, the 45th running of the Transpacific Yacht Race from Los Angeles to Honolulu, will go down in history as the fastest Transpac ever, resulting in the obliteration of course records along with many other major accomplishments.

Highlights of the Transpac 09 Awards Ceremony

John Kilroy's Samba Pa Ti Team took to the stage seven times during Transpac 09's Awards Ceremony at the Waikiki Shell. Samba Pa Ti had a rare clean sweep and won the Barn Door Trophy, The King Kalakaua Trophy & Governor of Hawaii Trophy among other coveted Transpac trophies. Mayor Mufi Hannemann and Lt. Governor James R. "Duke" Aiona, Jr. appear with John Kilroy Jr. and Samba Pa Ti crew.

Watkins Morford and Their Transpac Wedding

After the photos were taken on the bow of Medicine Man, Minister Al Bento handed his cell phone to Jared Morford. The caller on the other in end of the line was his good friend, Mike Elias. Morford held his ear to the receiver and hesitated as he replied, “Well, I’m married now. How are you?”
