8 Bells Jerry Montgomery

It is with sadness we share the news of the passing of Jerry Montgomery on December 6, 2025. A longtime participant in the Transpac Race and a dedicated member of the Transpacific Yacht Club, Jerry will be remembered for both his competitive success offshore and his dedicated service to the Club.

Over the years, Jerry competed on a broad range of boats. In the 1993 Transpac, he won Class C aboard Patriot, his J/N IOR One-Tonner. Jerry returned to the race in 1997 with a ULDB SC 50 Ralphie, winning the race overall and claiming victory in Division 3. In 2007, he competed on the heavy Swan 42 Mystere in the Aloha B Division.

In addition to his racing accomplishments, Jerry served the Transpacific Yacht Club with distinction as 2004-2005 Commodore. From 2007-2023, he also served as Judge Advocate or on the Protest Committee during race years. His leadership tenure was marked by his contributions to the stewardship of the Club and the continuation of its traditions and mission.

Jerry Montgomery’s involvement with the Transpac as a successful competitor and valued Club leader, reflect his lasting commitment to offshore sailing and to the Transpacific Yacht Club. His contributions will be remembered by our sailing community.
