January is a time for resolutions and we asked our 2021 competitors about their goals for the 51st Transpac Race. Be sure to check out all the competitor profiles and keep with the latest on our social media channels:
- Athena - “Safe, fun, competitive”
- Bretwalda3 - “It would be nice to win one.”
- Callisto - “ To have a safe and enjoyable ride to Oahu!”
- Compadres - “Safe - Fast - Fun”
- Denali^3 - “Champagne downwind sailing with a group of close friends”
- Fast Exit II - “Fun, 7-days to HI and win it.”
- Favonius - “First and foremost to learn how the platform performs and have fun. I am taking the long view and plan to return in 2023, 25 and beyond so this first race focused on collecting knowledge that will help us sail better in subsequent Transpacs.”
- Horizon - “Division win.”
- Joy Ride - “Going fast across the ocean.”
- Knotty - “To make every minute of this race fun. No stress. No yelling. No anxiety. Just 7 guys having a fun sail to Hawaii.”
- Live Wire - “To finish without breaking the boat.”
- Lucky Duck - “The Transpac race is for us the ultimate test of boat prep, navigation and sailing skills. We look forward to going up against some of the best talent in the world as we battle our way to the finish line.”
- Merlin - “The goal is always to win while promoting the camaraderie and personal challenge of offshore racing.”
- Mikmaks - “To borrow from equine endurance racing: ‘To finish is to win.’ Our goal is to arrive in Hawaii with a happy, healthy crew and a boat ready to sail another passage. I think everyone is looking forward to seeing the wide open ocean while under sail.”
- Oaxaca - “Beat our 2019 performance.”
- Pied Piper - “There will be a number of 'rookie' Midwest sailors on the race who have spent a lot of time on SC70's- but never with them pointing to Hawaii.”
- Rio100 - “Hopefully first to finish.”
- Searoon - “Our goals as a team are to be safe but be as competitive as possible. We'd love to pass a few boats on our journey. We're most looking forward to bonding as a team over the long days and nights and experiencing all of the unknowns that the Transpac can bring.”
- Skye - “We are looking forward to having a really great time together as a crew. We want to push the boat hard and enjoy days and days of trade wind surfing. I would be lying if I said that we don’t care how we place in the standings, so I will add a competitive finish time to the list of desires. Finally, as skipper, I have done the crossing in the 1992 Pacific Cup and the 2004 Singlehanded Transpac. After two weeks of sailing, the thing that I look forward to most is the smell of flowers and volcanic soil that you can first perceive approaching the Hawaiian islands. Lastly, I would like to set a new personal best for crossing time (I.e. 13 days or faster)”
- Sonic - “1. Finish 2. Win or at least podium in our class 3. Have a great fun speeding downwind under the moon and stars light:-)”
- Spindrift V - “Catch a Mahi and not be over early”
- Trader - “My goal for TRANSPAC is “safe boat, safe crew, safe race.” I am looking forward to bringing attention to our “Sailing for Freedom” mission, along with challenging our team, and celebrating in the camaraderie of achievement through participation in this classic blue-water sailing adventure.”
- Vera Cruz - “A safe, fast passage with my wife, daughter and closest friends.”
- Viva - “First you must win your Class. Then get lucky to have a good starting date so that you have favorable weather conditions to compete for the Overall WIN!”
- Warrior Won - “Our team goals revolve around preparing and training as a team so that we have a shot at winning our division for the race's we enter. That being said, we're really looking forward to competing against great teams on a great race course.”
- Westerly - “Our goal like any team is to win but the primary goal is to be competitive in what will be a very competitive fleet while being safe and having at least a little bit of fun along the way.”
- Zero Gravity - “We'll be looking to be on the podium in 2021 and finishing during daylight. We missed the sunset by an hour and our finish photo was just the green dot of our navigation light at the Diamondhead buoy. Needless to say, the hospitality and after-race events in Hawaii are not to be missed!”
- Zvi - “Competing at the highest level and finishing in Hawaii with the knowledge that redid everything we could;dto get there as quickly and safely as possible.”
