The Notice of Race is live and registration opens June 1, 2024.
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA—The Transpacific Yacht Club has published the Notice of Race for the 2025 edition of the Los Angeles to Honolulu Transpacific Yacht Race. Known as the Transpac and held biennially since 1906, this will be the 53rd edition of this classic 2,225-mile ocean race.
Registration opens on June 1, 2024, and is open to offshore-capable racing and cruising monohull yachts from 30 to 100 feet in length that also meet other criteria listed in the NOR.
NAUTICAL CLOUD: A ONE STOP SHOP FOR REGATTA ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
The Transpacific Yacht Club is pleased to announce it is partnering with Nautical Cloud for race operations. This “one-stop-shop” for regatta management will handle everything from pre-entry forms, to competitor communications, to vessel tracking, results and awards.
“Nautical Cloud allows us to organize everything a skipper and crew need to prepare for the Transpac in a comprehensive digital checklist," said PRO Tom Trujillo. "Racers will be able to log in and out as needed to update their entry requirements and stay on top of deadlines. We’re delighted the technology is now in place for a more seamless experience, from creating an account pre-entry to after crossing the finish line. With all the details contained in one digital platform, it will allow competitors to focus on other aspects of preparing to bring their best to the race.”

WEATHER PREDICTION HANDICAP SYSTEM IN PLACE FOR 2025 RACE
Following an analysis of past race data, the Transpacific Yacht Club will employ a rating system that incorporates weather forecasts. Ratings will be calculated from weather predictions available on the morning of each start and the polar performance data from each boat’s ORR certificate. With three starts planned over five days, weather-adjusted ratings for each day will maximize the chances that the various divisions will be able to compete fairly against the entire fleet.
“Instead of relying on historical averages, handicaps derived from weather predictions immediately before the start of the race represent one of the most significant improvements to scoring in many years,” said TPYC Commodore Bill Guilfoyle. “With three starts over five days, no race stands to benefit more from this innovation than Transpac. Weather prediction-based handicaps will go a long way to leveling the playing field for boats affected by what are often vast differences in starting time weather conditions."
He added, "This is just one of the many improvements we’re making in 2025 to enhance the experience for new and returning teams competing in one of the greatest offshore races in the world."

ABOUT TRANSPAC
First organized by the Transpacific Yacht Club (TPYC) in 1906, the Transpacific Yacht Race or Transpac is an offshore sailing race from Point Fermin in Los Angeles to Diamond Head, just east of Honolulu, a distance of 2,225 miles. This is among the world's great ocean races, and biennially attracts some of the world's fastest sailing yachts, some of its most talented offshore racing sailors, and a wide variety of offshore sailing adventurers. TPYC also conducts occasional races to Papeete, Tahiti. Membership to TPYC is open to all sailors who have completed a TPYC race to either of these destinations in paradise. This club is also a founding member of the Offshore Racing Association and its races are sailed under its Offshore Rule, ORR.
