Newport Harbor Nautical Museum will host a special screening of Morning Light on October 15th. Proceeds from the event will benefit next years Transpac Exhibit at the Museum.
This exclusive screening for the Museum will celebrate the film’s release and underscores our announcement of an unprecedented partnership: The Transpacific Yacht Club and the Newport Harbor Nautical Museum have joined forces to establish an official Transpac home at the Museum. This timely occasion also creates a visible new platform for the Museum - a “coming-out party” as we gear-up to unveil our plans for the future.
To commemorate this special occasion, Roy E. Disney and Leslie DeMeuse-Disney will unveil the film at this event in Newport Beach to more than 600 guests. Festivities will begin prior to the screening that includes a food and wine festival with music in a casual atmosphere surrounding the Lido Theatre, followed by the screening. Afterwards, there will be a question and answer period with Roy Disney and Leslie DeMeuse-Disney on stage with members of the Morning Light team.
Morning Light chronicles the recruitment, training and performance of sailors as young as 18 through one of the greatest races in the world – 2,225 miles from Long Beach, California to Hawaii. This race is demanding, fast and fun and takes these spirited young sailors to an extreme level in their lives. On their own, during the 44th Transpac race in July, 2007 they sailed a Transpac 52 called Morning Light---the film’s title. None are actors. There was no script and no preconceived outcome. Roy Disney didn’t care as much whether they won or lost as how they came together as a group and wound up as a team in the end; and no matter what outcome, they were given the equipment to win.
