The Notice of Race is official and registration opens June 1, 2026.
The Transpacific Yacht Club has published the Notice of Race for the 2027 edition of the Los Angeles to Honolulu Transpacific Yacht Race. Known as the Transpac and held biennially since 1906, this will be the 54th running of the 2,225-mile legendary ocean race.
Registration opens on June 1, 2026, for monohull and multihull yachts that meet the requirements in the NOR, including US Sailing’s Safety Equipment Requirements (SER) for ocean races—vessels must be completely self-sufficient for extended periods of time, capable of withstanding heavy storms and prepared to meet serious emergencies without the expectation of outside assistance.
“Transpac is one of the best offshore races in the world. A race towards the tropics with trade wind sailing near the finish and a special Hawaiian Aloha welcome awaits is a sublime experience, and TPYC and all of its volunteers look to build on 120 years of experience to make this Transpac even better," said Alan Andrews, Commodore of the Transpacific Yacht Club.

Skippers, take note:
Three starts are planned for competitors: July 6, July 8 and July 10, 2027. This schedule results in boats starting on different days crossing in the middle of the race. It brings the finishes of fast and slow boats closer together so all can celebrate dockside and aligns well for the Honolulu team who staff the finish line, greet the boats, handle post-race inspections and state clearance and host the parties. With a July 18 full moon, competitors can enjoy a gradual increase of moonlight each night for the bulk of their time racing offshore.
The ORR (Offshore Racing Rule) will be used to handicap monohulls competing for the traditional King Kalakaua Trophy and other monohull perpetuals. ORR-MH will be used to handicap multihulls.
New for Transpac 2027: an Open Monohull Division for monohulls with more vertical lift than ORR allows, up to fully foiling, provided they meet the other monohull requirements, such as US Sailing’s SER stability and construction requirements. Open Monohulls are eligible for the Barn Door, fastest monohull elapsed time and monohull course record trophies.
After the success of the 2025 Transpac, the Transpacific Yacht Club will continue its partnership with Nautical Cloud for race operations. This “one-stop-shop” for regatta management will handle everything from entry forms, to competitor communications, to vessel tracking, results and awards.
“We are building on what we learned during the 2025 race to expand capabilities and utilize more features in Nautical Cloud,” said Tom Trujillo, Principal Race Officer. “Apps will be enabled for competitors and shore-based support teams, family and fans to track boats, standings and other race information, with improved notification services for Official Noticeboard postings and check-ins for the sailors, and a more accurate boat tracking feature. Our intention is to have clear, easy to locate information on our website that links directly to our Nautical Cloud resources without duplicating efforts, which will benefit both race organizers and followers.”
