Passing of Yacht Legend Lou Comyns

Lou Comyns, Director Emeritus of the Transpacific Yacht Club, passed away this morning, July 12, 2009 at 10:36 am. Memorial services pending. In addition to his longtime involvement with the Transpacific Yacht Club he was Staff Commodore of Long Beach Yacht Club, Staff Commodore of Cabrillo Beach Yacht Club, Staff Commodore of Corsair Yacht Club, Past Commander of the Long Beach Power Squadron.

In lieu of flowers the Comyns Family requests that donations be made to the Lynx Educational Foundation in memory of Lou Comyns.

Lou was instrumental in introducing the idea to include tall ships into the Transpacific Yacht Race of 2009. This added another chapter to the legacy of the Comyns family and their multi-generational connection with the Transpacific Yacht Club and the Transpac Race. Lou's vision has always been to give back to sailing that which you have received over the years and experienced through sailing. The mission and programs of America's Privateer Lynx, which have touched thousands of students, children and adults along the West Coast and Hawaii, fullfills Lou's goals and nobly passes on theses maritime traditions. America's Privateer Lynx is a square topsail rigged Baltimore clipper schooner with a sparred length of 122 feet and displacement of 114 tons. Lynx teaches early American maritime history, seamanship and science. She is guided by the maxim:" Be Excellent to Each Other and to Your Ship."
