Entries Rolling in for 2025 Transpac Race

Twenty boats and crews have already claimed their spot on the starting line for the 2025 Transpacific Yacht Race, including past first-place finishers Pyewacket, Roy Disney’s Andrews 70, and the Kernan 68 Peligroso, now skippered by Cecil Rossi, who won his division in 2023 racing the Farr 57 Ho’okolehe. So far, the scratch sheet is showing several veteran entries, boats with well-honed professional crew and many smaller amateur teams with shorter waterlines, such as Alli Bell’s Cal 40 Restless and Stacy Sinclair’s Kelly Peterson Rhiannon. It’s a hallmark of Transpac that the challenges inherent to a long-distance ocean race attract such a variety of sailors, from those looking to break speed records or personal bests, to those wanting to experience that comes from successfully crossing the Pacific in company with some of the best sailors in the world.

NOR AMENDMENT REGARDING PERSON IN CHARGE

Skippers and sailors, please take note that race organizers from the Transpacific Yacht Club are fine-tuning the Notice of Race to enhance the safety of crews by amending Section 8 Special Requirements, regarding Person In Charge (PIC). “The PIC shall also assign another person as the Reserve Person in Charge to take over their responsibilities in the event the PIC is unavailable.”

SPONSORS SUPPORTING TRANSPAC: WHITTIER TRUST

An incredible team of supporters is also coalescing around this legendary 2,225 race from Los Angeles to Honolulu. That includes the many sponsors who help to make it one of the greatest ocean races in the world, such as Whittier Trust.

As the oldest, private multi-family office headquartered on the West Coast, more than 500 families place their trust in Whittier to manage their investments and remain prepared to navigate the many uncertainties in wealth management that require sound judgment and a steady hand at the helm.

Whittier Trust’s connection to Transpac stretches back 100 years. Max Whittier raced his family’s 107-foot war surplus yawl Poinsettia in the 1923 Transpac. As recently as 2021, Whittier Trust’s CEO David Dahl and sons, Michael and Sean, with staff member Brett Scott, competed aboard the Andrews 77 Compadres. “Everything was going great, we thought this was going to be an easy race,” recounted Michael Dahl. “Then the pin in the vang broke and it went downhill from there. I had not realized how one failure can lead to others so easily.”

The team persevered and finished the race under jury rig. Their teamwork and dedication to handling difficult circumstances aboard a boat echoes Whittier’s approach towards asset management: plan for the best outcome but be ready to shift gears when circumstances change.

Whittier Trust is proud to perpetuate the legacy of Transpac and are enthused to return as the Heritage Sponsor for the 2025 Transpac.
